| Is the Trimuter as fast as a conventional bike? | |
Whenever a rider converts from a conventional bike to a recumbent, many different muscles are used that will need to be strengthened. After a period of time, the newly used larger muscles will become stronger and the rider will be able to perform as well as or better than on a conventional bike because of better streamlining.
| How is the Trimuter on hills? | |
All recumbent riders will be slower on hills than they were on conventional bikes until they have conditioned new muscle groups. The additional weight on a trike will also slow the assent speed, but the extra gearing combination and the stability of 3 wheels, make hill climbing much more relaxing.
| Do drivers have difficulty seeing the low-slung trikes? | |
Most trike riders find that motorists readily see the safety flag and immediately pay a lot of attention to a trike rider because it is so different. Of course, cautious and defensive riding is always advised when riding any bike in traffic.
| Is the Trimuter difficult to maintain? | |
We use common bicycle components that are maintained just like a conventional bike. Some minor adjustment will need to be made to the king pin nuts during break in and normal cleaning and lubricating is necessary to keep the trike running in top performance.
| Why do you use drum brakes and not disc brakes? | |
Drum brakes function somewhat like anti-locking brakes. If the brakes are applied very hard, very quick, they will not lock the wheels instantly. Instead, the braking force becomes greater at a more constant rate. This is important for safe braking in an emergency situation. The drum brakes also have very easy setup and are very easily maintained.
| Why is the trike heavier than some other models? | |
We use a heavier wall of 4130 chromolly tubing to increase the stiffness of the frames. This contributes to better performance and a higher degree of stability and longevity. I have been told that trimuters are faster than similar models and I contribute this in part to the stiffer frame.
| What is the warranty? | |
The frame components are guaranteed for life and the components carry the factory warranty.
| Is there any assembly involved? | |
The Trimuter comes fully assembled and ready to ride. Some minor adjustments might be made for pedal length to fit individual preferences.
